Welcome to Our Blog!

Welcome to our blog - our very first blog (Carol and Tim's Excellent Adventure or wherearethekanes.blogspot.com) which we have managed to create all on our own, not a 14 year old tech whiz in sight!

We're off to India in two days for two months.  Yup, two months, on our own, with a backpack.

Family and friends have pleaded (well not exactly pleaded but asked very nicely) to 'please send us photos, let us know where you are, what you're doing.'  So rather than try and send gazillions of photos (some of which might even get captioned before they're emailed) and clog up lots of in-boxes, we decided it was time for us to become bloggers.

We've taken so many trips in the last eight years, if this goes well, I may even have to go back and recapture some memories and photos from trips of yore.  (You all know I'm a real chatterbox; Tim not so much.) And for those of you who have gotten this far, take a guess as to where we are in the header photo - or template photo.

For now, we'll concentrate on India which will be a big enough challenge.  Here are a couple of 'get started' photos.

First, the very best guide to India, LP's brand new 2013 edition.

And, as always, National Geographic's wonderful maps.  (I photographed this one on our kitchen floor!)  those funny little tabs are our itinerary.  We start in Kerala (the far south), make our way to Varanasi, then Khujuraho, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Admedabad, Ft. Kochi and back to Kerala.
We thought two months would be more than enough - NOT!  We will just barely scratch the surface.

And for those who like topo maps, thanks to NG here's one of the best.

    1. I can't write fast enough! What an utterly amazing country and people. Glad we took the 'soft landing' approach and came to Kerala for the first two weeks. If this is overwhelming (and it is) we have been 'warned' about the North.
